Kanza is a very new concept within the Minianka musical culture in the region west of the city of Koutiala. This kind of music is a fusion of the past and the present. It opens the door to the future.
Based on the principles of Kanza Yaya Diallo adds further innovation by transposing traditional African music to western instruments mixing saxophone, electric violin, bass and guitar with traditional drums, balafon and voice. The mix of these instruments gives a unique sound passing from the village to urban settings uniting African traditions with the popular culture of Western music touching rock and roll, jazz and blues genres. Yaya Diallo's 2003 release Live at Club Soda with his band "Kanza" runs in front of future Kanza music that will incorporate elements of electronica, rap and western classical instruments more traditionally heard in orchestras.
